High potential and gifted education

At Willmot Public School, we go beyond the ordinary to nurture each child's unique character and talents.

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport. Our highly trained staff recognise and nurture these strengths early.

We support advanced learners with great lessons, innovative programs and targeted activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

At Willmot Public School, we offer specialised programs in dance, circus arts, and performance that nurture gifted and talented primary students. Our supportive environment helps children build confidence, develop skills, and prepare for exciting future opportunities—including entry into selective creative arts high schools.

Our student voice and leadership programs empower high potential students to take initiative, build confidence, and make a real difference in our school community. From the school council to the school newspaper club, these opportunities create motivated and inspired leaders.

Advanced learning pathways and targeted enrichment programs help our gifted students to thrive and build skills for the future. Students who love a challenge excel through academic competitions like the Premier’s Spelling Bee and STEM challenges.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

Our classroom practices support and extend high potential and gifted students.

Our teachers have the expertise to:

  • design targeted enrichment programs to stretch and challenge all students.
  • provide quality, explicit instruction
  • deliver programs that develop character strengths like persistence and a love of learning
Across our school

Our school offers a range of whole-school programs that provide opportunities for all students to develop their interests and ignite their potential.

These include:

  • dance, circus arts and vocal ensembles
  • student voice and leadership
  • journalism - news club and podcasts
  • academic competitions
  • cycling and BMX

These initiatives prepare students to access system level programs for students with high potential.

Across NSW
Our students participate in a wide range of programs beyond the school gate to extend their potential. From the Premier's Spelling Bee to Pulse Alive, our school is committed to giving high performing students opportunities to challenge themselves on the big stage, in the sporting arena and at statewide competitions.
